A LIMERICK man who was found with €20 worth of cocaine when searched by Gardai had a two year suspended prison sentence activated for a previous offence.
David Keane (33) of Coolready, Castleconnell, admitted possession of the drugs when he was searched by Gardaí on October 8 last, Limerick District Court heard.
Judge Patricia Harney was told that there were serious consequences to the offence as it triggered a suspended sentence which he had received following a previous conviction for careless driving, causing death.
The court heard that Keane had six previous convictions for driving offences including drink driving and the driving causing death conviction.
At the time he was convicted in the Circuit Court in February 2022, the Judge in the case imposed a two year sentence but suspended it for two years, provided he did not offend again in that time.
The guilty plea to the cocaine charge means that Keane is now being sent back to the Circuit Court where he was previously sentenced to have the suspended term activated.
Judge Harney said on account of his early plea and co-operation with the Gardai in the cocaine matter, she would impose a fine of €100.
He was remanded on bail to appear at the Circuit Court in Limerick on May 10.
